Hunt for gunmen who fatally shot Bityi man, his wife and daughter at their home

Mthatha - Mthatha police have appealed to the public for assistance with information that will help them track down suspects, who opened fire at a family at their home, killing a man and two women and injuring another woman.

"Mthatha police request anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of two assailants that kicked the door open and fired some shots to the husband, his wife and their two daughters at Tyalarha location in Bityi on Sunday, at about 19h30," said police spokesperson, Captain Dineo Koena.

"It is alleged that the suspects stormed in at their house and opened fire without any word killing a 73-year-old father, 69-year-old mother and their 41-year-old daughter.

"Their 28-year-old daughter survived with some injuries on her upper body and was rushed to hospital in a stable condition."

Capt Koena said that several 9mm pistol empty cartridges and some live rounds were picked from the scene.

"The motive for their attack is not known and no arrest as yet. We urge anyone with information to please contact D/Captain Mshumi on 0824420585 and the information will be kept anonymous. Our Crime Stop Line can also be contacted on 0860010111."

Acting Mthatha SAPS Cluster Commander, Brigadier Mandlakhe Twala, said; "We're investigating three murder and one attempted murder cases. We will leave no stone unturned in order to arrest these perpetrators.

"A Task Team will be formed and a 72-hour plan will be activated. We therefore request the community's assistance during the investigation."
