Alleged Port Elizabeth gangster arrested hours after fatal shooting incident

Port Elizabeth - A 23-year-old alleged gang affiliate was arrested hours following a murder that took place in an alleyway between Avalon and van Duuren Street in Helenvale, Gelvandale, Port Elizabeth, over the weekend.

"It is alleged that on Sunday, at about 21:00, Kurtley Bruiners (23) and three friends were standing in an alley next to the boundary wall of Avalon Street when two males known to them came up the alleyway from Van Duuren Street," described police spokesperson, Col Priscilla Naidu.

"When the two males were halfway up the alleyway, one of them started shooting at the group.

"Bruiners sustained gunshot wounds to the stomach and chest and died on the scene.

"The other three victims managed to escape without injury."

She said that immediately after the incident, the Anti Gang Unit and the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation (Gang Investigation) were in pursuit of the suspects.

"At about 01:00, on Monday morning, a 23-year-old suspect was arrested at a house in Zimdahl Street in Gelvandale."

He is detained on a charge of murder and is expected to appear in court soon.
