Boomtown and Bronx Woman launch the ‘Bronx Women's Day’ virtual march

Port Elizabeth - To honour the anniversary of the 1956 Women's March, Bronx Woman and Boomtown teamed up to create the first-ever virtual march in South Africa, in tribute to the brave women who marched to the Union Buildings, against the pass laws, on the 9th of August 1956.

The digital campaign aims to not only pay tribute to the women that marched exactly 63 years ago but to also create awareness and educate young South Africans on the origins of Women's Day in South Africa. Women from all over the country can join the march by simply following the prompts on the Bronx Woman Facebook page.

"Many young people in South Africa and are not always aware of the sacrifices made by women in the past, so that we may have equal rights today. The women of 1956 marched for equal rights, equal pay, childcare provisions, housing and a decent education,” remarks Boomtown Art Director, Meagan Viljoen.

“The Bronx Woman brand is all about being bold, sassy, independent and having the freedom to be who you want to be, so what better way to celebrate Women’s Day than to create a Bronx virtual march in honour of the brave and strong women who marched in 1956.”

The campaign is currently being rolled out on all Bronx social media platforms and will go Live on Facebook on Women’s Day. The aim is to get as many people as possible to join the virtual march, which will run for one day only.

To get in on the action all you have to do is visit the Bronx Facebook page, join the ‘Walk with me’ event and use the hashtag #walkwithme to be part of it.
