Bathurst man jailed for 11 years for killing girlfriend

Makhanda - A 33-year-old man, Zwelenzima Christopher Blou, of Thembisa Location in Bathurst was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment for the murder of his 26-year-old girlfriend, Vuyokazi Zondani, Thembisa Location in Bathurst.

"At 21:00 on the 10 March 2018, both the victim and the suspect, who were inebriated, were embroiled in a domestic argument," said police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender.

"The victim intended ending her relationship with the suspect.

"The suspect then used a knife and stabbed her in her neck. She died at the scene."

Two hours later, he was arrested by members of the Bathurst SAPS.

"Violence against women and children is one of the SAPS Priorities," said Capt Govender.

"Awareness campaigns are being held with the community, however victims need to be aware that there is help out there.

"The protection order is one of the very powerful tools that can be applied for to assist victims of domestic violence.

"Let’s join hands and break the silence on domestic violence and sexual abuse!"
