Inquest docket opened after Mthatha learners drown at East London beach

East London - Police in East London have opened an inquest docket following the drowning of two learners from a primary school in Mthatha while they were swimming at Eastern beach, East London, at about 12:15 on Friday.

"According to information, it is said that the learners were swimming in the sea when they experienced difficulty," said police spokesperson, Captain Mluleki Mbi.

"Two learners, a boy and a girl of 13 and 14 years of age, were declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

"Their identities will be revealed once the next of kin have been informed."
