Fugitive re-arrested by Humansdorp SAPS task team

Humansdorp - The efforts of a Humansdorp SAPS Task Team established on Tuesday to track down and re-arrest 20-year-old Fernando Eden Swarts, who escaped from lawful custody on Tuesday, at about 12:30, paid off when he was located and re-arrested on Wednesday.

Swarts was re-arrested at around 13:50 in Kriege Street, Vaaldam, Humansdorp.

"The suspect is due to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate's Court on Thursday on charges of escaping from lawful custody and business robbery," said police spokesperson, Colonel Sibongile Soci.

The Humansdorp SAPS Cluster Commander, Brigadier John Lebok, praised the task team for working tirelessly around the clock to ensure his apprehension.

"We are indeed turning the tide against crime and we will work around the clock to apprehend those who continue to undermine the authority of the State. #zizojika izinto," said Brig Lebok.
