Buffalo City Metro launches 16 Days of Activism

East London - The Buffalo City Municipality on Friday launched the annual 16 Days of Activism campaign of no violence against women and children, hosted by BCMM Gender Forum.

"The forum is aimed at addressing vulnerability of persons by providing a platform for women and children to actively and meaningfully engage in development local government integrated development planning processes," the municipality said.

"It is also focusing on raising awareness around certain issues including Gender Based Violence and brutal killing of persons with disabilities, women and children."

The 16 days Activism is a worldwide campaign to oppose violence against women and children. it is also aimed at raising awareness of the negetive impact that violence and abuse have on women and children and to rid society of abuse permanently.

"The rights of women and children are fundamental human rights protected by our national Constitution. Gender-based and child violence, in all its different forms, devalues human dignity and the self-worth of the abused person and must be stopped in our society," the Metro added.

"The abuse, rape and killing of women incidents which made national headlines featured young women from our Metro as a result the City saw it fit to host this event even earlier than the actual beginning of the national campaign."
