A 26-year-old Port Elizabeth shop owner was arrested after shooting at a client.

"This follows after a shopper visited a shop in Tshewu Street, New Brighton, at 21:00 on Tuesday night to buy airtime," said police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge.

"An argument ensued when the client insisted that he did not get the correct amount of change. The shop owner drew a firearm and fired one shot at the shopper.

"Fortunately, the shopper was not injured in the incident."

He said that the police later searched the shop and a 7,65 pistol and five rounds of ammunition were confiscated.

"The suspect was arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed fire arm and ammunition," Captain Beetge said.

"The serial number of the firearm was filed off and therefore the firearm will be analysed by forensic and ballistic experts to find out if the firearm was used in any other crimes and to whom it belongs."

The suspect will appear before the New Brighton Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
