26-year-old Willowvale man jailed for 20 years for 2014 rape
Justice was finally served when the Willowvale Regional Magistrate's Court on Tuesday sentenced a 26-year-old man, Alindile Mnyameni, to 20 years behind bars for raping a 23-year-old woman in 2014.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha; "It is alleged that the 23-year-old woman was from her home to her boyfriend on 02 August 2014, at about 20:00, at Willowvale Informal Settlement, Willowvale.
"She came across the accused, who demanded R5 from her.'
Apparently, when she told him that she did not have it, the accused forced her to his place.
"He raped her and later released her.
"A case of rape was registered at Willowvale Police Station," he said.
The Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) traced and arrested the accused.
Eastern Cape Police Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga, congratulated the Butterworth FCS unit for properly investigating the case.
She also welcomed the sentence as it will serve as a lesson to other would be rapists that police will arrest them and make sure that they are convicted and sentenced.
