Buffalo City Municipality Mayor takes COVID-19 test

East London - The first citizen of the Buffalo City Metro, Executive Mayor Xola Pakati led by example and took the first corona virus test in the City on Tuesday morning.

The Department of Health kicked off the COVID 19 public screening and testing campaign at the Gonubie Kings Mall taxi rank.

“Even though I am not showing any symptoms, I think it’s important for people to understand that they should volunteer to be screened and tested if needs be, “ said Executive Mayor Pakati.

The Department of Health will conduct screening and testing throughout the City.

The campaign will focus on:

*Test all close contacts of the index cases (confirmed positive COVID 19) within a house hold.
*Screen everyone in the identified hotspot areas within communities and test all persons presenting with a minimum of 2 symptoms of COVID-19
*All staff members in the PHC facilities, employees of staff in the garages, police station and shops within the malls in the identified hot spot areas will be tested.

It will focus on the following areas:

COASTAL AREAS

Gonubie & Mzamomhle, 7/4/20
Beacon Bay and Nompumelelo
East London correctional services Duncan 8/4/20
Village/Gompo areas 9/4/20

MIDLAND AREAS

Mdantsane NU8 and Unit P 14/4/20
Nxamkwana Iocation next to Pottsdam 14/4/20
Reeston & Ducats 15/4/20

INLAND AREAS

Amajarantina & llitha 16/4/20
Pollar Park (Dimbaza) 17/4/20

Ncera and Chalumna 21/4/20
Zwelitsha and Sweetwaters 22/4/20
