Metro's Fix-It Team hard at work over lockdown

Port Elizabeth - The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Rapid Response Task Team (RRTT) is known as the Fix-it Team. Wherever there is a long outstanding complaint from residents or when a quick intervention is needed, this is the Go-to team!

Coordinated by Zonile Ndoni, known as Mr Fix-it himself, this Team is composed of officials from all the Municipality’s service delivery departments. When needed, this quick-moving and flexible team is happy to team up with other local authorities, such as the SAPS and sector departments.

Lockdown? Not for this Team. Over the past week or two the team has scored many successes in its battle to ensure service delivery to all residents and prevent crises.

TO THE RESCUE WHEN A STORMWATER PROBLEM DEVELOPED: On 08 May 2020: the NMBM Rapid Response Task Team (RRTT) fixed blocked storm water drainage at the corners of Mhlanga/Stemela Streets and Nohashe/Stemela Streets.

FIXING MASSIVE POTHOLE VEXING MOTORISTS IN KWADWESI: On 09 May 2020, the RRTT fixed a massive pothole that was affecting motorists driving in the vicinity of the Kwadwesi Police Station towards the middle/bottom left lane (M17 towards Corobrick).

WATER SUPPLY TO CHATTY RESIDENTS RESTORED: On 10 May, municipal plumbers restored the water supply in Chatty, following a complaint lodged on 9 May.

MJOR WATER BLOCKAGE IN WARD 21 FIXED: On 11 May 2020, a major blockage in Ward 21, Seysi, was fixed. Due to the extent of the damage on site, the unblocking, which commenced on 8 May 2020, was completed only on Monday, 11 May.


BROKEN STORMWATER DRAIN IN MOTHERWELL NU 4 FIXED: On 12 May 2020, a broken storm water drain in Ward 58, NU 4Q Quka Street, was attended to by the RRTT and fixed within the required response time.

GUIDANCE ON HOW TO PAY MUNICIPAL ACCOUNTS DURING LEVEL 4 OF LOCKDOWN: On 13 May 2020, the NMBM Budget and Treasury management team drafted clear guidelines following customer enquiries on account payments over the current lockdown Level 4 period, to the effect that payments may be made at any Post Office branch, EasyPay outlet, ATM or EFT.

FAULTY ELECTRICITY METER FOXED: On 14 May 2020, an exploded electricity meter, which affected electricity supply to an elderly pensioner of Zwide/Soweto, was attended to and replaced.

WARD 19: POWER CABLES: On 14 May 2020, exposed and dangerous power cables were attended to and made safe by NMBM electricity artisans.
