28-year-old Dutywa man sentenced to 12 years for rape

The Butterworth Regional Magistrate’s Court sentenced a 28-year-old man, Songezo Ntame, to undergo 12 years imprisonment for rape.

According to police spokesperson, Capt Jackson Manatha, the accused was sentenced on Monday.

"It is alleged that a 68-year-old woman was at her home with a friend enjoying themselves on the 04th August 2018 at about 22:00 at Xholo Village, Dutywa," he added.

"The accused pushed the door and managed to open it and raped the woman."

He said that the victim’s friend managed to get out and called the neighbours, who apprehended the accused.

Dutywa man jailed for raping woman

Police were called to the scene and arrested the suspect.

"The victim opened a rape case at Dutywa Police Station."

Capt Manatha said that the case was handed over to Butterworth Family Violence and Child Protection Unit (FCS) for investigation, which led to the trial.
