3 Beaches Success for Reen

38 year old Bradley Reen was too fast for the youngsters on Sunday morning when he won the unique City Lodge Hotels Group 3 Beaches Challenge in Port Elizabeth.

The event which has participants tackle a 3.8km swim between Kings Beach and Pollok Beach, coming ashore at each beach along the way, and then finishing off with a 3km run back from Pollok Beach to Kings Beach had Reen enjoying a comfortable victory from fast chasing 14 year old Jamie Riddle and 18 year old MC Burri. The City Lodge event is unique to Nelson Mandela Bay and highlights the magnificent beach front which the city enjoys with three categories in the event, one for swimmers, another for paddlers and the third for our Surf Lifesavers. Each category was further broken down to include individual entrants, teams of two and teams of four participants.

A record entry for the event which was moved to Kings Beach to highlight recent rejuvenation of this area by the MBDA and to try and bring more water sport events back to this beach. The City Lodge Hotels Group have been the sponsor of the event for the past 3 years and rewarded participants this year with two magnificent lucky draw prizes of a two night stay for two persons at any of their hotels countrywide.

Antonella Saporta won the ladies swim category from Brigitte Melly and Tracey Almirall whilst the team of Kevin Richards and Wilfred Hurwitz won the duo team category with the team 2fit2Quit comprising of Leanne Morgan, Holly Barnes, Allen Nicholson and Tanya Smith winning the quad team category.

Lifesaving twins, Dale and Deo Kotze, won the Men’s and Ladies Lifesaving Ironman Category whilst the pairing of Stand-up Paddler Marc Kempton Jones and his runner Samantha Hewitson won the Paddlers Duo team category. Full results available on www.3beaches.co.za
