36-year-old Willowvale man arrested after allegedly raping 61-year-old woman

Willwovale police arrested a 36-year-old man for alleged rape of a 61-year-old woman over the weekend.

"It is alleged that the victim was asleep alone at her home, Lalini Locality, Ntsimbakazi Village, Willowvale on Thursday, 24 January," said police spokesperson, Capt Jackson Manatha.

"It was at about 21:00hrs when the door of her house was kicked wide open.

"The victim identified the suspect as he is also a local man."

Capt Manatha said that the suspect accosted the woman and overpowered her.

"It is alleged then that the suspect raped the victim. He took on his heels after the alleged rape," he described.

"The victim registered a rape case at Willowvale police station."

Alleged rapist traced and arrested by Willowvale police

Captain Manatha said that the suspect was traced and arrested over the weekend.

"The suspect is due to appear before the Willowvale Magistrate's Court on Monday on a rape charge."

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu, condemned the rape, abuse of women and  children.

He congratulated Willowvale police for their swift re action in tracing and arresting the suspect.
