Mercedes-Benz South Africa has released pricing and spec details of what it claims to be the most luxurious people carrier ever made.

Depending on the model, standard spec, amongst others, includes Crosswind Assist, Active Parking Assist using the combination of a reverse camera, ultrasound sensors and radar motion, as well as a system known as Attention Assist which uses sensors to detect driver drowsiness.

Models fitted as standard with the seven-speed automatic transmission also feature Agility Select which allows for choosing of four settings (ECO, Comfort, Sport and Manual) for the engine, throttle response and transmission.

In addition, these models also sport Agility Control which not only adjusts the damping of the standard air-suspension depending on road surface, but also determines intervention of the Adaptive ESP.

Optional extras are plentiful and includes a 360 degree camera system, adaptive cruise control with Collision Prevention Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Adaptive Highbeam Assist and a Thermotronic automatic climate control system with three settings; Focus, Medium and Diffuse.

Underneath the bonnet, the V-Class comes equipped with a single 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine, but in three states of tune with the option of two trim levels; Standard and Avantgarde and either a six-speed manual or the aforementioned automatic box.

Available only in Standard spec, the V200 CDI churns out 100 kW and 330 N.m of torque with Mercedes claiming a combined fuel consumption figure of 6.1 L/100 km for the manual and 5.8 L/100 km for the automatic.

Moving one up, the V220 CDI produces 120 kW and 380 N.m of torque with trim levels comprising of Standard and auto exclusive Avantgarde. Fuel consumption is rated at 5.7 L/100 km regardless of transmission specified.
