7-year murder trial ends in lengthy jail sentence for East London man

Mdantsane detective, Sergeant Khayalethu Koti, secured a 15-year jail sentence in a murder case that was heard in the Mdantsane Magistrate's Court since 2011.

"Koti's thorough investigation convinced the Magistrate to hand over this hefty sentence to the accused," said police spokesperson, Captain Nkosikho Mzuku.

"The accused, allegedly shot the deceased whilest trying to rob an unknown man at gunpoint on Thursday, 19 May in 2011, in NU2, Mdantsane."

He said that police would like to urge the members of the public to help us address the proliferation of firearms in communities, so as to put an end these unnecessary murders.

"Please unonymously report illegal firearms to your nearest police station or crime stop on 08600 10111."
