81-year-old East London woman burnt to death in her home

An inquest docket has been opened for investigation after an 81-year-old woman, who lived alone at the new RDP houses at Section G Needs Camp, in East London, died after her house caught fire.

"According to a neighbour she saw the victims house in flames in the early hours of Monday morning," said police spokesperson, Captain Hazel Mqala.

"The neighbour called other neighbours where they tried to extingush the flames, but all was in vain."

The charred remains was retrieved from the gutted home.

"The cause of fire is unknown," Capt Mqala added.

"An inquest docket has been opened for investigation."
