Accident near Kei Bridge claims the lives of two relatives

Kei Bridge police are investigating a culpable homicide case following an accident that claimed the lives of two relatives.

"It is alleged that a truck and a bakkie collided along the N2 highway at the Kei Cuttings, near Kei Bridge, Butterworth," said police spokesperson, Capt Jackson Manatha.

"The accident took place on Tuesday at about 06h50."

Capt Manatha said that the truck was from East London driving towards Butterworth whilst the bakkie was from Butterworth.

"A 35-year-old driver of the bakkie and his passenger, a woman aged 18, passed away at the scene," he added.

"Both deceased are relatives."

Cause of accident under investigation by Kei Bridge police

Capt Manatha said that the cause of the accident remains unknown, but under investigation by Kei Bridge police detectives.

"No one was injured from the truck. The identities of both deceased are still being withheld as some of their close relatives are still being informed of their deaths."
