Alfred Nzo District Municipality condemns vandalism of water facilities

Mthatha - The Alfred Nzo District Municipality Deputy Executive Mayor and Infrastructure Development and Municipal Services Portfolio Head, Cllr Polelo Mohale has made a plea to the community to expose all those involved in the vandalism of Water provision facilities and Infrastructure across the district.

This came in the wake of recent spree of vandalism which involved destruction of Buxton Park pump station in Matatiele where the battery was stolen leaving the neighboring area without water for a few days.

Fortunately with the intervention of ANDM technicians water has been restored.

Another vandalism took place in Cedarville where in the perpetrators emptied diesel tanks, cut all fuel pipes and broke all connector pipes that connect the engine to provide energy for the water pump, with total damage estimated around R150 000.

"These acts are reversing the gains made by the District Municipality in water provision and it all happens at a time when we are battling against COVID-19 which requires the constant availability of water to ensure Hygiene. This is really a selfish act of individuals who have no regard for human life," Cllr. Mohale said.

Communities are urged to come forward with any information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of these crimes and contact the ANDM communications unit on 066 322 5703.

To report infrastructure damages contact the ANDM customer care unit on 086 000 3781.
