Aliwal North man in court for fatally stabbing cousin in fit of rage

Aliwal North - A 52-year-old man is expected in court after he was arrested by Aliwal North Detectives for allegedly fatally stabbing his 32-year-old cousin on Wednesday.

The incident is reported to have happened at the Joe Gqabi settlement in Aliwal North.

"It is alleged that a group of friends were sitting and drinking alcohol when an argument erupted between the male suspect and his girlfriend," said police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moitheri Bojabotseha.

"A female cousin then intervened and defused the argument.

"Allegedly, the male suspect then left premises, but came back a while later with a Rambo Jungle knife and targeted his cousin."

She said that the deceased [cousin] sustained one fatal stab wound on the chest.

"Community members assisted in apprehending the suspect and summoned the police and paramedics to the scene."

W/O Bojabotseha added that the suspect is expected to make a court appearance on Friday, on charges of (1) murder, (2) resisting arrest, and (3) assualt on police.

Aliwal North SAPS Station Commander, Colonel Chris Wright, had condemned the senseless killing saying; “The SAPS regards incidents of violence perpetrated against women and children as very serious offences”.

He also urged members of the community to remain calm and allow the law take its course.

“We understand that the community has been angered by this incidents, but please allow the justice process to take place”, said Col. Wright.
