All Southern Kings fixtures for 2017/18 Guinness Pro14

As previously reported, the Southern Kings will kick-off their 21-match 2017/18 Guinness Pro14 campaign against current champions Scarlets at the Parc y Scarlets Stadium in Llanelli on the 2nd of September at 18:15 (SA time).

Out of the total 21 matches, the Kings will play 11 of those at home in the NMB Stadium in Port Elizabeth, with one away game played in Bloemfontein against the Cheetahs – meaning 12 played in SA.

Martin Anayi, CEO PRO14 Rugby, commented: "Our expansion into South Africa has the future of the Championship at its heart – more sustainable clubs, attracting the best players, taking on different styles of rugby and entertaining the fans from whistle to whistle – and the release of these fixtures aims to immediately deliver on that."

"With all the exciting news that has surrounded the unveiling of the Guinness PRO14 we know the fans have been eager to see the fixture list, but hopefully the wait has been worthwhile as we believe these fixtures will further enhance the excitement across each of the Championship's five territories."

The Kings, as well as the Cheetahs, will anticipate a much-needed lengthy break period from rugby action from the 1st of December 2017 until the 5th of January 2018, with their other Pro14 counterparts resuming their action from the 23rd of December already.

This gives the two South African sides that leeway rest needed, after an enduring Super Rugby campaign that sponged up their first half of 2017.

The Kings and Cheetahs also enjoy a three-week break (six-week break in two months) in both October and November 2017 respectively, in duration of the International November tour window, as well as the first rounds of European Champions Cup and Challenge Cups taking place in October respectively.

There will also be a two-week break at the end of January 2018 and a three-week window break in March 2018 for the resumption of the two European tournaments throughout - so the season as a whole cannot necessarily be depicted as too taxing for the two SA sides.

The two SA sides are also not deemed eligible for the two respective European tournaments, as they are simply not European-based.

With the internationally renowned Six Nations kicking off in early February, all the sides from the competing nations will break from the Pro14 (Wales, Ireland, Scotland and Italy) in late January, while the Cheetahs and Kings be in action to play back-to-back home and away matches against each other on the 13th and 20th January 2018 respectively.

The other sides resume their campaigns on the weekend of the 10th of February 2018.

The Kings will enjoy their longest home-run stint in the last five rounds of the tournament (from 2nd March until 27th April 2018), with five consecutive home matches played at the NMB Stadium until the play-off rounds.

"Working closely the clubs, unions and broadcast partners, who turned this schedule around very quickly, we believe we have created a calendar which will give fans the best experience possible to enjoy all of the Positive Play that the Guinness PRO14 prides itself on," Anayi added.

"Fans will be able to enjoy the fiercest rivalries, best international players and biggest variety of playing styles on offer in the history of the Championship."
