Alleged cellphone shop robbers flee empty-handed in Bityi

Bityi - Bityi Vispol members recovered 208 stolen cellphones, worth an estimated R50 000, after a business burglary was reported to Mqanduli police.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Khaya Tonjeni, it is alleged that unknown men were seen loading boxes from a local shop to their Ford Ranger with no plates early on Thursday morning, at about 00h45.

"Bityi Vispol members were patrolling the N2 when they spotted the vehicle and chased it till Payne locality in Mthatha where the suspects dumped it and fled on foot," he described.

"The vehicle which is not reported stolen and was confiscated."

Police investigations continue.
