Alleged Port Elizabeth gangster nabbed after months on the run after double homicide

The suspects allegedly fatally shot a couple in Jacksonville, Port Elizabeth

Port Elizabeth - A 24-year-old alleged gang member is expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on a double homicide charge, which allegedly took place in November 2018 in Bethelsdorp, Port Elizabeth.

"It is alleged that on 3 November 2018, at about 00:15, Megan Mitchell (21) and Clive September (36) were walking in Almond Street in Jacksonville, Port Elizabeth, when two unknown males appeared and started shooting at them," described police spokesperson, Col Priscilla Naidu.

"The couple were fatally wounded."

She said that Mitchell sustained a gunshot wound to her head and chest while September sustained multiple wounds.

In December 2018, Riyaad Groves (29) was arrested at his house in Jacksonville by the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit (Gang Investigations).

"He has since appeared in court and remains in custody until his next appearance in May 2019," Col Naidu said.

She said that the second suspect in that shooting, the 24-year-old, who had evaded arrest since the incident, was finally arrested on Thursday.

"Port Elizabeth Flying Squad members acted on information received that the suspect is at a house in Brittlewood Street, in Jacksonville, Port Elizabeth," Col Naidu described.

"He was arrested, detained and charged for the double murders."
