ANC Eastern Cape welcomes arrest of suspect in Busisiwe Ngwandla case

King Williams Town - The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape congratulated law enforcement agencies for arresting a suspect linked to the fatal stabbing of Busisiwe Ngwandla, aged 37.

Ngwandla was found with multiple stab wounds at her flat in Amalinda, East London, in February this year.

"The suspect was arrested at Khayelitsha , Cape Town in the Western Cape over the past weekend," said ANC Eastern Cape Media & Liaison Officer, Judy Mpetsheni.

"The ANC hopes and trusts that the suspect will face the full might of the law.

"Our justice system must impose harsher bail conditions and longer sentences for those who commit gender- based violence."

Mpetsheni said that indeed, the high levels of violence against women remain a matter of national concern.

"The painful story of Busisiwe Ngwandla has touched the conscience of our nation in the most profound way," she added.

"It must move all of us to redouble our collective efforts to eliminate the scourge of gender-based violence.
