ANC Nelson Mandela Bay calls for speedy arrest of Thando Xakaxa's killers

The African National Congress (ANC) in Nelson Mandela Bay Region on Thursday that it had been shocked and outraged by the assassination of its Branch leader in Zwide on Wednesday, at around 20h15. Reports suggest that his execution had to do with tenders.

"The ANC extends its sincere condolences to the family of comrade Thando Xakaxa, 41, a Branch Deputy Chairperson of Ward 25 in Zwide was gunned down by an unknown gunman inside the yard of his home," said Themba Xathula, ANC Regional Secretary for the ANC Nelson Mandela Bay Region.

Apparently Xakaxa had just concluded a prayer service at his church and was gunned down whilst climbing out of his car at his home. He was found by his father.

"Although details regarding Cde Xakaxa's murder remain sketchy, but it appears that his attacker fired behind and shot him in the head.

"Comrade Thando Xakaxa was a gentle giant, who dedicated his life to serve his community," said Xathula.

"He was an inspiration and represented the cream of the crop of young cadres that are developed by the movement to service our communities.

"We have lost a dedicated comrade and a true revolutionary who served the community with dedication."

He added that Xakaxa's outstanding leadership skills will be sadly missed by many in the ANC.

"It’s a sad day for our movement to loose such a young leader who had devoted his life to serving his community.

"We call on the law enforcement agencies to do everything in their power to root out the evils of crime and violence faced by public representatives," said Xathula.

"The ANC extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, his comrades, colleagues, friends, his community that he served with dedication and passion up to this last day.

"Thando is survived by his father ,mother and son. We share their grave sense of loss."
