ANC postpones Nelson Mandela Bay and Amathole regional conferences

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday announced that regional conferences that were scheduled for the Nelson Mandela and Amathole regions this coming weekend have been postponed. The conferences have now been moved to February 2017.

"The Amathole regional conference will now take place on 10-12 February 2017, with the Nelson Mandela regional conference rescheduled for 17-19 February 2017," said ANC Eastern Cape Provincial Secretary, Oscar Mabuyane.

"The reason for the rescheduling of the Nelson Mandela regional conference was due to the delays in membership audit processes done at the branch level.

"Amathole region has not met the requisite 70% threshold of Branch General Meetings (BGM) for the conference, which led to the regional conference being rescheduled to February 2017."

Mabuyane said that the ANC's Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) has set up teams per sub region to attend to all the disputes that have been lodged.

"All BGMs for these two regional conferences have been suspended because of the December closing and will resume on 5 January 2016," he said.

"This has been communicated with the leadership structures of the affected regions and all other details and logistics regarding these conferences will be communicated with the branches."
