aQuellé Ocean Racing Series ends off Season 10 this weekend

Nelson Mandela Bay's unique aQuellé Ocean Racing Series ends off Season 10 this Sunday morning with round 10 taking place at Hobie Beach from 9am.

The Series attracts participants from around the country to take part in any one of 5 events which take place at PE's premier beach on alternate Sunday mornings during the Summer months.

Sunday's final round is the last opportunity for participants to accumulate points for the overall Series standings. In order to qualify for the overall standings, competitors need to have completed at least 50% of the available races and their best 70% will count towards the overall points.

Whilst the overall winners in some of the categories have already been decided, there is still a close tussle for the honours in the Men's and Ladies 3km Ocean Swim and the ladies 5km Beach Run. The stand out of the Series has to be Pearson High School Scholar Dylan Finlay who has won every single 5km Beach Run this season. Another exceptional performance has been that of Series newcomer, Brigitte Muller of Framesby High School, who has won the ladies category in every 1km Ocean Swim which she's taken part in this season.

"With just under 4,000 entries so far this Season, we are extremely happy with how Season 10 progressed. The weather doesn't always play it's part but so far in 2015 we've enjoyed exceptional beach conditions for the Series." said Series owner Mike Zoetmulder of Zsports Events NPC.

"Our gratitude and appreciation to the members of Summerstrand Surf Lifesaving Club, the members of the Coastal Water Rescue Service and ESS Medical who have ensured the safety of participants during the season - without these unsung heroes, water sport events in the Metro would not be possible."

The final series prize giving ceremony will take place at News Cafe on Sunday morning from 11am to 1pm with over R50,000 in prizes, medals, trophies and lucky draws up for grabs. Round 10 kids lucky draw prize giving takes place on the beach at 10am on Sunday with the adults lucky draws taking place at the Boardwalk as part of the final series prize giving function.

The aQuellé Ocean Racing Series will return for season 11 on Sunday 11th October. See www.oceanracingseries.com for further information.
