Armed housebreaking suspect killed by mob in Uitenhage, police warn public

Police in Uitenhage over the weekend issued a stern warning against revenge attacks and mob justice after an alleged armed housebreaking suspect was brutally assaulted and later died in KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage, on Sunday.

"Today, at around 03:00, it is alleged that a 30-year-old man was breaking into a backyard shack of a house in Mankayi Street, KwaNobuhle where he allegedly stabbed occupants and was later attacked by angry residents," described police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli.

"The deceased, Lindikhaya Ngcelwane (30), died at Letitia Bam Day Hospital, KwaNobuhle.

"Residents are warned that perpetrators of such crimes will face the full might of the law.

"If you come across someone committing any criminal activity, call the police and a suspect will be arrested. A citizen arrest does not equal to revenge attacks."
