Atlas Security recovers vehicle within 45 minutes of hijacking

Leading local private security company, Atlas Security, on Wednesday said that they recovered a vehicle within 45 minutes of it being hijacked.

"Our control room received a panic signal from a popular service station in the Walmer area of Port Elizabeth. Upon arrival, one of their client’s confirmed that they had been hijacked," described Je Taime Edgar, Atlas Security Public Relations Officer.

"Five men, three of whom were armed, forced both adults and children out of the vehicle and fled towards the Walmer area."

Atlas Security Armed Response Officers, B1 and CM1, after receiving details of the stolen vehicle and suspects, recovered the vehicle on the corner of Fordyce and 5th Avenue.

"The suspects had abandoned the vehicle and fled, knowing that authorities were hot on their heels," she added.

"A large sum of money was stolen. The victims were unharmed, but are traumatised.

"The matter has been handed over to the SAPS for further investigation."
