Bakkie stolen in Oudtshoorn intercepted at King Williams Town

Two men are expected to appear in the King Williams Town Magistrate's Court next week after they were arrested for alleged car theft at the corner of Oak Street and Albacross Street next to Taxi Rank, King Williams Town.

"In the early hours on Wednesday morning, police received information about a bakkie that has been stolen at Oudtshoorn, in the Western Cape, and the suspects are also driving a hired Polo Vivo and are driving to Umtata," said police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa.

"While police were patrolling the CBD and also on the look out of the mentioned vehicles, they spotted the Polo and managed to stop it.

"They searched the vehicle and recovered suspected housebreaking and car theft implements with balaclavas and car keys."

She said that, upon investigation, they found out that the bakkie was involved in an accident on the N2 near Tamara area.

"The Flying Squad and East London K9 members recovered the vehicle and the driver fled the scene."

Police were conducting a search for the driver while the bakkie was confiscated by police

The suspects are due to appear at King Williams Town Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Acting King Williams Town Cluster Commander, Colonel Nomvuyo Mrwebi, commended the members for their vigilance that led to the arrest of these suspects.

She thanked the community members for sharing valuable information with Police that led to the recovery of stolen vehicle and recovery of these implements.

“This is part of crime prevention as Police prevented many housebreakings and theft of motor vehicle that was going to occur in our Province," Col Mrwebi said.
