Base GWMs now safer

One of the stronger Chinese automakers currently operating in South Africa, Great Wall Motors (GWM) has introduced a safety versions of is popular Steed 5 bakkie.

Based on the entry level MPI petrol and available in single or double cab configurations, the safety version, as its name suggests, adds dual front airbags, ABS and EBD with additional standard kit consisting of a MP3 sound system with USB, air-conditioning, alloy wheels, foglights, central locking, heated rear window and central locking. In addition, the double cab also boasts electric windows and leather seats.

Momentum continues to be provided by GWM’s proven 2.2-litre engine that produces 78 kW and 190 N.m of torque. As before, power goes to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox with fuel consumption coming in at 9.7 L/100 km for the single cab, and 10.2 L/100 km for the double. Payload is rated at 1 221 kg for the former, and 1 005 kg for the latter.

A three year / 100 000 km warranty is standard in the single cab’s R177 900 and double cab’s R204 900 stickers prices.
