Base spec Kia Picanto gains more grunt

The recipient of a mid-life facelift just over a year ago, Kia Motors South Africa has further bolstered its popular Picanto range with the addition of an entry-level 1.2-litre model to complement the existing 1.0 and flagship 1.2 EX models.

Slotting in between the base 1.0 LS and more upscale 1.0 LX, the new 1.2 LS differs little from its smaller sibling in the looks department, but with motivation now coming from the same 1.2-litre Kappa engine used in the EX that produces 65 kW and 120 N.m of torque. Transmission options consist of a standard five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic.

Standard spec also mirrors that of the smaller LX with items consisting of colour-coded door handles, bumpers and mirrors, 14-inch steel wheels with plastic wheel covers, air-conditioning, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, trip computer, 60/40 split rear seating, radio prep with two speakers, ISOFIX mounting points and driver’s only airbag.

A five year / unlimited km warranty is standard across the range.
