Bay doctor’s nappy donation bolsters Eastern Cape beauty queen’s pageant chances

Port Elizabeth -Xolisa Maseti, a contestant in the coveted Miss Eastern Cape – Beauty with a Purpose pageant, could hardly contain her excitement when Dr Mthembeni Tebelele, helped her reach her charitable target to be eligible for the title that will be decided at Hemingways in East London in December.

Tebelele, Chief Executive Officer of Aphile Communications and a well-known local physician, gave half of the 50 packs of nappies required for the 21-year-old Boston College student’s charitable drive to aid infants at Children’s Homes.

In its sixth year, the Miss Eastern Cape – Beauty with a Purpose contest searches for dynamic young women throughout the province by hosting regional auditions.

The Hankey-born Xolisa Maseti had her audition at Baywest Mall in September, was chosen as a semi-finalist and managed to advance to be one of twelve finalists after a successful book drive for the Vukani Combined School.

As if juggling her Human Resources studies with her job as a Project Manager at the Masinyufane Development Organisation is not enough already, the energetic beauty queen registered her own non-governmental organisation called Ukukhanya Foundation which means “show the light”.

“I am not just happy and pleased that I will now be able to reach my target, thanks to the generosity of Dr Tembelele.

“I first contacted Mr George Meko from Aphile Communications for assistance and he immediately bought into my vision. He in turn approached the CEO of Aphile Communications and the rest is history,” Maseti said.

Although Tebelele is known for his philanthropy, he admits that it is the first time that his help will bolster a young fledging talent at the very same time as making a difference for the needy.

“When I heard the request, I was immediately intrigued as the nappies will not only provide relief for babies in need, it will make the hard work of a fascinating young woman easier at the same time.

“Xolisa Maseti has the tenacity and will-power to go a long way in her chosen profession. Her caring personality and drive to make a difference sets her apart.

“I hope that our assistance will add value to her chances of being crowned Miss Eastern Cape – Beauty with a Purpose on the 8th December at Hemingways,” said Dr Tebelele.
