In partnership with the Baywest Mall, in Port Elizabeth, a Cyclethon event was held for the Smile Foundation of South Africa to raise funds and put a smile on the faces of many children.

The Smile Foundation is a South African NGO that assists children with any type of facial abnormality, to receive free corrective Plastic and Reconstructive surgery within South Africa.

Sixty spinning bikes that were sponsored by VIVA Gym and Planet Fitness were placed in Baywest Mall’s food court on Saturday were volunteers spent an hour or more riding to raise funds.

Volunteers raised R160 per person, per hour, per bike in a division of three one hour sessions.

The event was a resounding success; event organiser Tanya Jackson was overwhelmed and grateful at the turnout.

“The first session was completely sold out, and only five bikes were left open for the second and third sessions. So we are very happy with the turnout,” said Tanya.
