Bethelsdorp police need help solving case involving dumping of newly-born baby

Port Elizabeth - Bethelsdorp detectives, in Port Elizabeth, are appealing to the community in Arcadia or the surrounding areas to assist them in urgently tracing the mother of a new born baby found in Harrington Road on 3 May 2019.

According to police information, a passing motorist noticed a bag in the road and stopped.

"On further investigation, a baby boy approximately 2/3 days old was found inside, already dead," described police spokesperson, Capt Sandra Janse Van Rensburg.

"The child still had the umbilical cord attached to him.

"He was covered in a blanket and placed in the bag."

She said that police have opened an inquest docket, however efforts in tracing any kin or the mother have failed.

"Anyone who may have known of any female that was pregnant or has recently given birth and may have any suspicions is asked to contact D/W/O Wynand Hills at SAPS Bethelsdorp on 082 633 1293 or 041 404 3005 or Crime Stop 0800 10111 or their nearest police station."
