In January 2017, the Toyota Dyna went through a magical transformation by losing 50kg from its Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM).  Now weighing it at 3 500kg instead of the old 3 550kg, it is one kg within the light commercial vehicle category.

This transition from medium to light commercial is significant.  For all intents and purposes it remains a small truck but it is far more user friendly.

Peter Parkin, Sales Manager at Hino Algoa, says, “It is better than the truck that it used to be because it no longer requires a driver with a Code 10 license – a Code 8 will suffice and, unlike medium and heavy commercial vehicles, its engine is not governed at 100km/h either mechanically or by the new government legislation.

“It is better than the bakkie that it has become because it can carry 500kg more in mass than a standard bakkie and nearly twice as much in a typical load box.”

In addition the new Dyna no longer requires an annual COF, is no longer required to go through weigh bridges and can now do deliveries in security complexes that do not allow MCV and bigger vehicles.

With the legendary durability and longevity of Hino trucks, the Dyna is a perfect workhorse.  At R284 533.51 incl VAT and with the Hino Algoa discount, the factory fitted dropside load body version is highly competitive.

Peter adds, “We are able to order the Dyna from the factory in almost any configuration that the buyer requires.”

Although Dyna is sold as a Chassis-cab, there are a number of X-option work bodies made available through Hino, including Dropside, Van body, Curtain Side, Dropside Tipper and the fitting of a towbar, bullbar and/or a battery cover.

The Dyna comes with a 12 months, unlimited km vehicle warranty and a Driveline 24 months, 150 000 km warranty.  The Rust Perforation warranty is for 36 months, unlimited km.

The famous 5L engine is a three litre, four cylinder diesel that produces  67 kW with a max torque of 192 Nm and has a top speed of 127km/h.

On a recent test drive I found this highly versatile workhorse comfortable to drive, small enough to fit in a standard parking bay and even fit through a McDonalds drive through but fitted with a load box big enough to fit at least two normal bakkie loads.
