Big turnout expected for triathlon

Some of SA's top young triathletes are expected to be in action at Pollok Beach on Sunday morning to tackle the 3rd and penultimate round of the About IT Triathlon Summer Series, starting at 8am.

The sprint distance triathlon which comprises of a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run will take place over an exciting spectator friendly course which sees each discipline being covered over two laps, keeping the action close to the spectators.

Participants will also enjoy a new and exciting cycle route which sees them going through the NMMU South Campus whilst the run route is concentrated around Pollok Beach.

Current Series leaders, Keegan Cooke and Liza Kingston, will be looking for a top podium finish to secure the Series before heading off for the finale at Port St Francis on Boxing Day which is traditionally the busiest of the Series races with over 300 participants expected.

Entry is open to anyone wanting to try a triathlon and if not participating as an individual it is an ideal team event where each leg of the triathlon is covered by a separate team member.

Those that aren't TSA registered are required to purchase a temporary license on the morning at just R30. Late entries and pre-registration opens at 6.30am at Pollok Beach behind the Summerstrand LIfesaving Club with the About IT triathlon race starting at 8am. The winners are expected to finish just after 9am.

Maps and further information is available on www.TriSummerSeries.co.za. The Series finale will take place at Port St Francis on Saturday 26th December with great lucky draw prizes up for grabs including Nutritech products and two R500 Caltex fuel vouchers.
