Body found dumped in Walmer with signs of a brutal torture

Police in Walmer, Port Elizabeth, have appealed to the community for assistance in identifying a body that was found on a gravel road between Willow and Yellowood Road in Fairview, Walmer.

According to police information, at about 08:00 on Thursday morning, a person walking to work stumbled on the body of a white male lying in bushes alongside the road.

"The deceased is approx. 55-60 years old and he was clad in blue jeans, white socks, a navy blue jacket, check shirt and a brown leather belt," said police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans.

"He was brutally murdered. Both his hands and feet were bound with a nylon cord and his head covered and severely beaten.

"Police believe that the body was dumped on between Wednesday night and Thursday morning."

He said that the motive and circumstances surrounding the murder is unknown at this stage.

"Police \are appealing to anyone, who may know of a person that is missing since Wednesday or may be able to locate the next of kin or possibly identify the deceased is asked to contact SAPS Walmer on 041 581 1406.
