Body found floating in Durban harbour

An inquest docket has been opened for investigation after a body was found floating in the Durban harbour on Tuesday.

According to Andre Fletcher, National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Durban deputy station commander, at 11h09, on Tuesday, the NSRI Durban duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following a request for assistance from Police Search and Rescue following reports of a body floating in the water a nautical mile from the Port of Durban Port entrance.

"The sea rescue craft Megan II was launched accompanied by Police Search and Rescue officers," he said.

"On arrival on the scene the body of an adult male was recovered onto our sea rescue craft by Police divers and the body has been brought to our sea rescue base and taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.

"An inquest docket is opened by Police."
