Body of missing Kwazakele woman found partially burnt in Shauderville

The body of a woman, who went missing from Kwazakele, Port Elizabeth, was positively identified by her parents on Friday morning, at the Gelvandale mortuary, Port Elizabeth police confirmed.

"It is alleged that on 20 December 2018, at about 09:45, Noxolo Prudence Maxham (41)  left her parents’ home in Jakavula Street Kwazakele to go for a walk. She never returned. She was from Cape Town and did not know anyone from the area," said police spokesperson, Col Priscilla Naidu.

"Her mother reported her missing  on the same day at SAPS Kwazakele.

"At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a pair of blue jeans and a peach coloured T-shirt."

Col Naidu said that on the same day, at about 12:30, Gelvandale police attended to an incident where a partially burnt body of a female was found in an open space in bushes in String Street, Shauderville.

"The identity of the woman was unknown. Circumstances surrounding the incident is unknown and police opened an inquest docket pending the post mortem report," she said.

"Police is appealing to anyone who can assist them with any information relating to this incident to contact D/W/O Edman Mandeka at SAPS Gelvandale  on 041 4525346 or 078 370 9785."

Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie, extended his appreciation to the media in assisting the police in tracing Ms Maxham.

"Although Ms Maxham was found under such tragic circumstances, her family finds solace that she has been traced. The media is a critical partner in our fight against crime and partnerships such as this can only benefit the communities we serve," he said.
