Body recovered after homemade boat capsized at Bridle Drift Dam

Police divers in East London were commended for their assistance after retrieving the body of a drowning victim following an incident that happened at Bridle Drift Dam on Thursday.

"The 29-old-male and his three friends were fishing and removing fish from a net when a homemade boat capsized and he fell into the water," said police spokesperson, W/O Hazel Mqala.

"Unfortunately, he could not swim and he drowned. The divers performed an underwater search in the area pointed out but could not recover the body."

Shesaid that the divers and K9 Search and Rescue returned on on Friday when a different area was pointed out by a second eye witness that was not present the previous day.

"After a 40 min underwater search, the body of the victim was recovered at a depth of 6 meters."

The family and the community praised the police for the good work of retrieving the body from the deep water.
