Bogus advocate again expected in court next week for a bail application

A 35-year-old Northern Cape man alleged to be a bogus advocate is again expected in court next week after he was busted by Detectives in Douglas, near Kimberly, on Monday for impersonating a legal representative. He was also charged with fraud.

"It is alleged that the suspect, known as Gideon Adams, posed as an advocate and defrauded several different parties of tens of thousands of rands, which he allegedly charged as attorney fees to his so-called clients," said police spokesperson, Captain S F Kock..

"On Monday, the suspect was arrested at his home in Prieska.

"Police also confiscated several documents and proof of payments that allegedly implicates the suspect in this regard."

Captain Kock said that Adams appeared briefly in the Douglas Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, and the case was remanded to the 30 November 2017, for a formal bail application.

"Anyone, who has maybe fallen victim to the alleged suspect must please call D/Sgt Calvin Botha 082 301 9978," he said.

The investigation continues.
