Boys aged seven and twelve die in shack fire in Centane

Centane - Centane police have opened an inquest docket after a shack caught fire on Monday at about 22h00 at Khabakazi Locality, Tafalofefe Village, Centane.

"It is alleged that a woman left  two boys, aged seven and 12, on Monday, at about 22h00," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"She was informed that the shack was on fire and she rushed to her shack in the early hours of Tuesday."

Capt Manatha said that both boys were rushed to Tafalofefe Hospital and it was confirmed on arrival that the seven-year-old boy had passed away.

"The 12-year-old boy passed away on Wednesday."

He said that the cause of the fire is not known as Centane police are still investigating.

"It is also not clear at this point in time if the boys were brothers as investigation is still underway. Police are also investigating why the boys were left alone in the shack."
