Breakthrough in property related crimes in Aliwal North

Two suspects are expected in court on Friday after they were arrested for theft during an intelligence-driven operation was conducted by Crime Intelligence, Aliwal North Detectives, LCRC and Colonel Wright, the Station Commander of Aliwal North SAPS.

"The investigation led to the arrest of two suspects, aged 23 and 25, after several cases of theft of property were reported during the last three weeks in Aliwal North," described police spokesperson, Captain Ursula Roelofse.

"They will appear in court on Friday.

"Several stolen goods with an estimated value of R80 000 were recovered."

She said that a Toyota Hilux bakkie was also seized from one of the suspects.

"An additional arrest were made of a 41-year-old suspect on receiving of the stolen goods when two truck batteries were found in his possession."

The Cluster Commander, Brigadier Xakavu, commended the members for the hours of hard work that made the successful arrests and recoveries possible.

“This is in line with our ‘Back to Basics’ priorities of the thorough and responsive investigation of every crime as well as crime intelligence in support of proactive and reactive prevention and investigation of crime,” Brigadier Xakavu.

He also thanked the community for their assistance to the SAPS and for reporting and rejecting stolen goods.

“We must tighten the space for the criminals in our town and Cluster.”
