Breathtaking views and comfortable living: Dolphin View Guesthouse will not disappoint

Driving down the coastal road towards Dolphins View Guesthouse, situated just 25 km outside of Port Elizabeth in the hamlet of Beachview, the weather was fine and the view and the scenery impressive. We knew we were in for a great weekend.

Upon arrival at Dolphins View we were greeted by Elaine Layfield, the owner of this delightful guesthouse.   Elaine showed us to our rooms and explained the amenities and described the attractions in the area.  When we entered our suite, the first thing I noticed was the breathtaking view of the Indian Ocean right outside our bedroom window.

Our suite, big enough for a family of three, was comfortably appointed and had a holiday feel. Spotlessly clean, crisp, fresh linen and with all the amenities needed, we felt very much at home.  The kitchen was kitted with all the needed appliances, the bathroom had a shower and a bath and, to my partners delight, the lounge had a television with a DSTV bouquet of channels.

We spent the evening cooking our dinner, happily chatting away and sipping wine. Being a perfect weather we enjoyed our culinary results on the balcony. I was completely mesmerized by the view.  We counted eight chokka boats floating on the pitch black ocean not far from the shore and, with the waves crashing on the rocks beneath us, we were lulled in our many moments of quiet and contemplation.

Needless to say, we slept like the dead.

The next morning we woke to the sounds of the ocean and soon found ourselves on the balcony again.  We were served with a delicious breakfast platter and, just as we took our first mouthful, a pod of dolphins swam by.   Our interests in the ocean awakened, it was not long before we spotted a whale further out to sea.  We were told that Humpback whales regularly passed by at this time of the year on their migratory route.

Dolphins View Guesthouse has five self-catering rooms each with an ocean view as well as access to Wi-Fi and selected DSTV channels. One of the rooms is also pet friendly.  In the immediate vicinity is a Spar for your self-catering requirements and, to keep you busy, so is Seaview  Predator Park, Kragga Kamma Game Park and  Holmleigh Farm.  The magnificent Maitlands Beach is not too far away either.

Dolphins View is a wonderful place to break-away from the big city.  I’ll certainly return!
