The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality coalition government has announced that South African Police Service (SAPS) Brigadier K. Meyer, has been appointed as the Metro's Safety & Security Executive Director.

"This is a triumph for the Municipality as we continue our efforts to create a safe city," said Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor, Athol Trollip.

He said that Brigadier Meyer brings with him 30 years of policing and safety experience, and a comprehensive understanding of the City's security challenges.

"While I'm sure SAPS is sad to be losing the Brigadier, the Metro is set to welcome yet another world class executive director to its senior management," the Mayor said.

"The Directorate's core management team is now in place - impressive in its skill and expertise.

"Led by Cllr John Sturrock Best, the Metro is serious about doing all we can, within our mandate, to keep our city secure."

He said that Brig Meyer has been welcomed by the coalition government.
