Buffalo City Metro introduces a new electronic pre-paid electricity system

The Buffalo City Municipality says customers will now enjoy paperless electricity purchases with the introduction of a new electronic pre-paid electricity system as the Metro takes advantage of the latest technologies.

"The City launched an app called WireIT, which is according to a municipal report, an electronic payment platform that utilises various banking channels to purchase pre-paid electricity," the municipality said.

"The programme will allow citizens to purchase prepaid electricity using internet, cell phones or any Automated Teller Machine (ATM). It is a convenient way for customers to avoid long queues, cut travelling costs and save time.

"Citizens can register online by visiting www.wireit.co.za and follow a few easy steps."

It said that 24-hour assistance for customers will be available on 087 7420 459. Current slips will also have information on how to purchase electricity electronically.

"The app is supported by ABSA, First National Bank, Nedbank and Standard Bank," the municipality added.

"To check for status on billing and meter reading, customers can SMS their 11 digit meter number to 36073."
