Buffalo City Municipality says it welcomes breakthrough in CCTV case

East London - The Buffalo City Metro says it welcomes the latest developments on incidents involving theft and destruction of its CCTV cameras.

"On the 27th of February 2020, at about 11h00, Law Enforcement Constables Clarke, Thompson and Ngxokela arrested a male suspect for Possession of Suspected Stolen Property at the Pontoon Road Scrap Metal place," the municipality said.

"The suspect claims to have 'picked up' the inner CCTV Metal Box, which was lying on the ground, and went to Pontoon Road Scrap metal to sell the item.

"The scrap metal dealer identified the suspect, who sold the CCTV Metal Box. The value of the box is about R2500."

The Metro said that the suspect was arrested and detained at East London Police station where a case of Possession of suspected stolen property was registered.

"We hope this arrest will lead to more arrests and also deter those behind previous cases."
