Buffalo City set to host 12th annual Standard Bank IRONMAN 70.3 South Africa in 2019

The hugely popular Standard Bank IRONMAN 70.3® South Africa is set to take place on Sunday, 27 January 2019.

The beautiful city of East London offers miles of beachfront and rich cultural history for athletes and spectators to enjoy. The Standard Bank IRONMAN 70.3 South Africa started in 2008 and quickly caught the eye of many triathletes.

It now boasts almost 3000 athletes who register for the event year on year. It is regarded as one of the toughest and oldest 70.3 events on the circuit.

2018 saw South Africans, Matt Trautman and Jeanni Seymour, winning the men’s and women’s races respectively despite having some strong competition from the international field. It was a fairy tale for Trautman as he had a crushed lumbar vertebra and multiple level spinal fusions just a year before he stood on the start-line.

“To see how this race has grown and developed over the last 11 years has been phenomenal. The quality of race experience, the challenge it offers and the unique atmosphere are just a few of the reasons this race has reached this level of popularity amongst athletes.

"It is especially encouraging to see that our international numbers have increased by such a margin, bringing more visitors to the region and further demonstrating the growing international appeal of the event,” says Keith Bowler, Managing Director: IRONMAN South Africa.

General entries to the 2019 Standard Bank IRONMAN 70.3 South Africa will open on Friday, 18 May at 11:00am.
