Burglars flee empty handed after failing to blow up safe at Malabar garage

The Provincial Organized Crime Investigation unit in Port Elizabeth is investigating a case of housebreaking after a garage in Malabar, Port Elizabeth, was broken into during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

"At approximately 01:00, on Wednesday morning, the manager of the filling station received a message from the security company informing him that the alarm has been activated, but they reported all in order," said police spokesperson, Capt Sandra Janse Van Rensburg.

"At around 03:45, the manager was contacted again by the security company requesting him to come out to the filling station. 

"On arrival, at 04:15, the security company was on the scene and upon entering the premises they noticed holes  in the roof."

Burglars attempted to blow up drop safe

She said that it is alleged that the suspects gained entry through the roof and using explosives attempted to open the drop safe with no success.

"The suspect/s then fled the scene," said Capt Janse Van Rensburg.

"A case of housebreaking is currently under investigation and anyone with information can contact Lt Col Willie Mayi on 082 697 5914 or Crimestop on 086 001 0111."
